MRONJ (Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw) - 2022 Update: Review

Abstract

|
|
Since osteonecrosis of jaw (ONJ) was reported to be associated with exposure of antiresorptive medication, the definition and management strategies for Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) have been updated several revisions by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Society (AAOMS). Based on its opinions, the Korean Society for Bone and Mineral Research (KSBMR) and the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (KAOMS) has proposed guidelines suitable for the Korean situation. Recently, KAOMS and AAMOS published new version of guidelines for MRONJ and updated the management for denosumab related ONJ. Therefore, based on these position papers, I would like to introduce the current knowledge of MRONJ including modifications and improvements to the previous ones.
